ZHUKOVSKIY (Moscow Region) (Sputnik) — The document was signed by Russian Aircraft Corporation (RAC) MiG Director General Ilya Tarasenko and Malaysian Air Force representative Mohamed Fadzar bin Sufad on the margins of the MAKS.

"The agreement confirms the extension of our contractual obligations for the Malaysian Air Forces on the operation of MiG-29 fighter jets. The RAC MiG will continue its cooperation with the Malaysian Air Forces and will provide technical support for these aircraft," Tarasenko said.

The MiG-29 supply contract was signed in Kuala Lumpur on June 7, 1994. The total contract value of 18 Russia-supplied aircraft was estimated at $560 billion. The MiG Corporation assumed the obligation to make the necessary adjustments and adapt the aircraft to Malaysian humid tropical climate. Malaysian MiG aircraft have come to be known as MiG-29N and MJG-29NUB, and formed Squadron 17 and Squadron 19 of the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

  3. Chances are they will resume the mrca programme on 2020 or later unless they are able to get funds to resume.

  4. Very likely after General Election 14, the BN government will proceed with the purchase of MRCA.

    4. I disagree with the rankings. Phillippines FA50 should be 13. F16blk 25 is 11. F5E 10. Su30mk2 for both indo and viet are tied. F18 malaysia at 5. F16 c/d Blk 52+ at 3. F15sg at 1.

      Hapus
    5. yup, the f15 sg should be at 1. mkm at 2. if im not mistaken the singaporean f16 should be even more advance than Thailand's gripen c so it should be sg f16 at 3 and gripen c at 4. malaysian f18 should be at 5 since Thailand's f16 is not actually that much of a different than indonesian f16 block 25. fa 50 should be 11. the f5e should be 15 since the malaysian and indonesian hawks are equip with better system than Thailand's f5e.

      Hapus
    6. oops a little correction, thailand and indonesian f16 should be 10 and 11 respectively while fa50 at 12.

    7. F5e is better than the Bae hawk. Bae hawk was designed as a trainer not a light attack fighter. F5e has a better performance apart from carrying advance systems and weaponary. Still 1 important factor remains. The condition the aircraft is in. The rmaf baehawks are notorious for incidents. Im sure u heard recently two majors died because of it. They r majors took them long to get up the ranks and they r experience but all ended because of an aircraft. They arent going to actively use the hawks but have to for training. Indonesia's hawk is better than theirs. Remember do not push the hawks to much you will damage the plane. Malaysian defence posted once about one of the hawks taken out because of damage and the amount of stress it got. Bae hawk is not a fighter but a trainer if u want it too then upgrade if it is possible that idk. During the paris airshow there was a new baehawk unveiled that can be an advance jet trainer and light attack. This can suit their requirements
